I'd been meaning to read this book for some time. It's by an author I already like (having read 100 Years of Solitude) and it refers to an epidemic in the title. What more could a literature and public health junkie want? book review )

Just a random note for any who have wondered where my user icon came from. Here's a link to the full print. (The colors aren't quite perfect here, and many of the other sites showing this poster had squashed the perspective to fit it into a "standard" frame. Foolish mortals!)

I don't have any particular attachment to this painting, but I do love all of the works of this artist, Alphonse Mucha. He defined Art Nouveau at the turn of the century and his works have always made me ache with their beauty. Mucha did everything from poetic visions to biscuit advertisements and yet filled every one with the same lush women in flowing garb. They are beautiful in their pride and strength. I fell in love with them all at the Mucha Museum in Prague.

That's my random bit of trivia for the day.
